Work is continuing on the establishment of a large-scale breeding livestock complex in the Samukh district that meets modern standards. The project aims to develop sheep and buffalo farming, strengthen breeding livestock production in Azerbaijan, and establish a highly productive and modern agricultural model.
Farid Mustafayev, founder of “Milagro Ganaderia” LLC, stated in an interview with AZERTAC that the farm currently covers an area of 1,250 hectares. Of this area, 250 hectares consist of cultivated land equipped with pivot irrigation systems, while the remaining territory is used as pasture.
According to Mustafayev, the farm currently keeps approximately 3,600 small ruminants. In the next phase, the construction of new barns and modern livestock infrastructure is planned. The main objective is to transition from an extensive livestock farming model to an intensive production model and gradually increase the number of breeding ewes to 70,000–80,000.
He noted that the Qaradolaq breed, a local Azerbaijani sheep breed, is primarily being raised in the sheep farming segment. The breed is well adapted to the climatic conditions of both Samukh and the mountainous areas of Kalbajar used as summer pastures, and is distinguished by its high meat productivity.
Another important component of the project is the development of dairy buffalo farming. For this purpose, the import of Nili-Ravi breeding buffaloes from Pakistan is planned. The breed is known for its high milk productivity, with one buffalo producing an average of 16–17 litres of milk per day, while the milk’s fat content can reach 7.5–8%.
Mustafayev also emphasized that the presence of the Gabirri River, extensive water resources and reed-covered areas within the farm’s territory creates favourable natural conditions for buffalo farming. Taking these factors into account, the project is being developed with a strong focus on high-productivity dairy buffalo farming.
He noted that the project is expected to make a significant contribution to the development of breeding livestock in Azerbaijan, increase the production of high-quality meat and milk, and support the sustainable development of the country’s agricultural sector.
